16-Year-Old Saurabh Chaudhary Wins Gold in Air Pistol Championship

He is the first and youngest Indian to win gold in the 10 m air pistol championship. Vijay Kumar was a silver medallist in the 2012 London Olympics. Saurabh, who hails from Kalina village in Uttar Pradesh, topped the qualification score at an amazing 586, and had been shooting a consistent 587 in training.

“I know these people are big shooters, but I’ve never seen them. I don’t have any role models in shooting really. I just try to get better myself,” said Saurabh. He had recently returned from Suhl in Germany, where he had won gold in the junior event.
Abhishek Verma shot a total of 219.3 to win the bronze whereas, Tomoyuki Matsuda of Japan secured the silver with 239.7 in the 10 m air pistol championships.

Vinesh Phogat on day 2 of the Asian Games, became the first Indian woman wrestler to secure a gold after she defeated Japan's Yuki Irie in the 50 kg women's Freestyle final. Vinesh dominated the contest winning 6-2. On the previous day, India's first gold was secured by wrestler Bajrang Punia in the men's 65kg contest. India has risen to the seventh spot in the Asian Games 2018 medal tally with 2 gold, 2 silvers and 1 bronze.

India's shooter Lakshay Sheoran succeeded in getting the silver medal by finishing second, while Manavjit Singh Sandhu finished fifth in the men's trap final.
